How to Vote Like Jesus

Choose Your Side...and vote like you are on God's Team!

whose side are you on?

(Scroll down to get to the issues)

Welcome to the www.HowToVoteLikeJesus.com webpage! (It is interesting to note that "howwouldjesusvote.com," "votelikejesus.com" and many similar names have been purchased and parked...maybe to prevent their use?)

I hope the information provided here will help you make an informed decision about how you should vote. Please note we are not endorsing any particular candidates, but rather specific biblical positions on current political issues. You NEED to do the due diligence to find out what specific platforms on these issues are held by various candidates, and then make your choices based on those who are more closely aligned with the biblical positions (even if the candidates themselves are not actually Christians!) We should be voting on the issues, not the person. Also, remember that, as Christians, everything we do should be emphasized by LOVE (John 13:35 - "All men will know that you are my disciples if you love on another." - NIV) However, we cannot forget TRUTH...sometimes Christians, while emphasizing love, downplay the truth erroneously believing they are loving others by doing so, and of course, sometimes Christians focus on the truth without emphasizing love. We must abide by both LOVE and TRUTH, which means sometimes people will get their feelings hurt, but they are not inadvertently led into a lie. True love tells the truth, but in a gentle manner.

Before we get into the information you came to read about, I would like to first answer the question that some of you may be asking: “How can this person have the audacity to believe that he can speak for Jesus?” That is a fair question. Let me be clear, however, that I am not speaking for Jesus. The answers to these questions are clearly stated in the Bible (which is the Word of God, and therefore the exact same standard which Jesus, as God, would apply), so the real question to be answered is: Are you, the voter, interested in being on the side of God, or the side of a corrupt world being led by Satan? Remember, it is not popular to do the right thing, but it is godly. In John 15:18-19, Jesus tells us, “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, for I have chosen you out of this world. That is why the world hates you.” If you are truly a follower of Jesus, the world will hate you, especially because of your biblical positions on these specific issues!

In Matthew 7:21-23, Jesus says, “Not everyone who says to me ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophecy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me you evil doers!’” If you vote in a manner that clearly contradicts the will of God, you are actively rebelling against Him, and you will have to answer for it on Judgment Day. I humbly ask that you pray about these issues, and then vote according to God’s Word. I also ask you to search deeply within yourself and, if you disagree with the biblical position, ask yourself if you are actually a follower of the real Jesus Christ, or just some religious figure that you made up and call by the same name…?

These political issues are listed alphabetically, not in any sort of priority as they are all very important. If there are other specific issues you would like to see addressed, please use the contact form at the left of this page to make your request. All Scripture is taken from the New International Version (NIV) unless otherwise noted.

Abortion

The Bible is clear about God’s position on abortion. Abortion is a sin. Although the Bible doesn’t actually use the word “abortion,” it does discuss the value of all human life, which begins in the womb at conception. Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created them, male and female he created them.” So, the fact that human life is created in the image of God, and every life is created with a divine purpose, is the first important point.

The second important point is that God specifically created each child, from the womb. Psalm 139:13 says, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” This is clearly speaking of the divine conception between the seed of the man (sperm) and the seed of the woman (egg) being “knit” together, or combined, to create a human life. From a biblical standpoint, life begins at the moment this occurs!

God takes this so seriously that he demanded the death penalty for anyone who kills an unborn child: Exodus 21: 22-23 says, “If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely, but there are no serious injuries, the offender must be fined whatever the woman’s husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life…”  Genesis 9:6 says, “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for in the image of God has God made man.”

Both mother and child have a right to life, and neither has the right to deny that to the other. God clearly recognizes the right to the life, safety, and welfare of an unborn child, with harsh penalties for those who would harm either a pregnant woman or her unborn child. Believers have a responsibility to fight for the unborn, and to care for those who have been orphaned by the parents (whether through death or abandonment). Believers should therefore fight for the life of an unborn child to be delivered, even if that also means delivery into a life as an orphan.

Clearly, God is pro-life, and calling something “pro-choice” might make it sound more palatable, but the reality is, if someone makes the “choice” to have an abortion, they are committing a murder whether the modern corrupt world believes it or not. Vote pro-life.

NOTE: If you have had an abortion, please know that God still loves you (always) and will forgive you (if you repent)! God will take you from where you are to where you need to be. Remember, we are all sinners!

Environmental Stewardship

As Christians, we are to be stewards, or caretakers, of our environment. God gave us very specific instructions to "rule over" His creation. Doing so, however, does not mean extreme environmentalist practices, but rather common-sense practices that help to maintain and increase the health of the planet. Some people take this way too far and either use unproven and questionable scientific practices to make radical claims, or put the health of the environment above the health of fellow human beings. Neither positions are correct.

In Genesis 1:28, "God blessed them and said to them, 'Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." (NIV)

In Psalm 8:6-8, man's position as being responsible for taking care of the world is reiterated: "You have made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas." (NIV)

We do not own the earth, God does. Humans are simply stewards, but we must take care of it as if we are taking care of God's creation...because we are! There are many issues which we can address and make sense to address, and there others which are "unknowns." As stewards, we should take care of (vote for) the harmful issues we can address. For example, issues such as pollution, disposal of hazardous waste, use of harmful pesticides, and large-scale erosion of forest (necessary for creating oxygen) are some of the topics that find their way into political platforms. One of the topics which seems to remain at the top of the environmental list is "global warming." However, global warming (made-made instead of natural) is still not proven, and the tactics proposed to prevent it may prove to be more harmful than good.

From a biblical perspective, we should vote for issues that make common sense to protect the environment.

Homosexuality / LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgender, Queer, Plus)

As previously mentioned, everything we do as Christians must emphasize love. Unfortunately, this particular topic has divided many Christians, but again, we must emphasize both LOVE and TRUTH. Homosexuals, and other LGBTQ+ members, should always be treated with love and respect (they are loved by God, too!). However, the Bible is clear on God’s position about LGBTQ+ issues. Although many people today have tried to justify support for and/or participation in homosexuality and other alternative forms of sexuality, including trying to (incorrectly) convince the rest of society that these alternative forms of sexuality are normal, the fact is that the biblical record denies their cause. God created only two genders: male and female. Both men and women are created in the image of God and should be honored and appreciated as such. Genesis 1:27 says, “God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”

The practice of homosexuality is clearly condemned in the Bible. Leviticus 18:22 says, “Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.” Leviticus 20:13 says, “If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own hands.” For those who might argue that these are Old Testament passages and the standard changed with the coming of Christ, please note Romans 1:24-27, which says, “Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator – who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.” 1 Corinthians 9-10 says, “Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolators not adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”

Unfortunately, many Christians look past a lot of other sins and focus their attention solely on homosexuality. While this is also unacceptable, the Bible is clear that homosexuality is a sin, and if you are a Christian, you cannot support it, including voting for people who you know support and will be using political influence to further the homosexual agenda.

Most Christians recognize the important distinction between the condition (orientation) and practice itself; believing oneself to be sexually-oriented as lesbian, gay, bi-sexual or transgender (LGBT) may not be a choice. Regardless, the root cause of all sexual-identity issues is intentional and willful disobedience to God.

Transgenderism is also condemned whether practiced by male or female. Deuteronomy 22:5 says, “A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor must a man wear women’s clothing, for the Lord your God detests anyone who does this.”

As a Christian, one’s identity is in Christ, not in being a heterosexual or homosexual (or any member of the LGBT continuum). The Bible condemns all forms of sexual activity outside a heterosexual monogamous married relationship. Nonetheless, Christians have a responsibility to respond to the issue of alternative-sexuality in a manner which demonstrates both the love of Christ and the truth of the gospel in the knowledge that some will repent and be saved. But for voting purposes, Christians should never vote for someone who supports homosexuality, or any other political position on sexual issues contrary to the biblical position.

NOTE: If you do or did identify as LGBTQ+, know that God still loves you (always) and will forgive you (if you repent)! God will take you from where you are to where you need to be. Remember, we are all sinners!

Marriage

Marriage is a God-ordained relationship between a man and a woman, where the union is so strong the two are considered to be one. Genesis 2:18 says, “The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” Genesis 2:24 says, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.”

God created marriage to provide an equal partnership between a man and a woman, whereby the two form a life-long relationship in which to love each other, support each other and glorify God. From this blessed union, married couples are to have children who will manage the resources of the world from generation to generation. Genesis 1:28 says, “God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

A believer should only marry another believer, as the two should not be unequally yoked. 2 Corinthians 6:14 says, “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?”

Although complementarily co-equal partners, the husband is the head of the household just as Christ is the head of the Church. Ephesians 5:22-24 says, “Wives, submit to your husband as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.” For the people who love to take this passage out of context, please note that verse 25 goes on to say, “Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her…” In other words, husbands…you need to be so sacrificial in your duties as the head of the household that you are literally willing to die for your wife!

NOTE: If you have supported or entered into a same-sex marriage, know that God still loves you (always) and will forgive you (if you repent)! While this "marriage" may be recognized by the world, it is not recognized by God, even if the ceremony was performed in a church. God will take you from where you are to where you need to be. Remember, we are all sinners!
